PKG Center’s Approach to Preparing Students to be Social Innovators
Submitted by Keely Swan, IDEAS Administrator at MIT
This poster highlights the Priscilla King Gray Public Service Center’s evolving thinking about how to prepare students to be more effective and ethical in their engagement with communities. For the past 18 years, the PKG Center has run the annual IDEAS Global Challenge – MIT’s annual social innovation competition. Seeing a need to provide more opportunities for students to spend time learning about complex social and environmental challenges before encouraging them to develop solutions, the center has expanded its programming to provide more support for community-engaged, exploratory research and skills-building workshops.
